Parent Code of Conduct
As a parent in the Stamford Youngtimers Basketball League, I commit to the following:
Respect
- I will respect all players, coaches, referees, and spectators. I will set an example for my child by demonstrating sportsmanship and positivity.
- I will refrain from criticizing referees or coaches during games. If I have concerns, I will address them with the coach privately and respectfully and will allow 24 hours after any game before voicing my concerns.
Support
- I will support my child’s efforts and celebrate her accomplishments, focusing on her development and enjoyment rather than just winning.
- I will encourage my child to maintain a positive attitude and good sportsmanship during practices and games.
Positive Encouragement
- I will provide positive encouragement to my child and her teammates, understanding that my role is to support their growth, not to direct their play.
- I will avoid shouting instructions during games, allowing the coach to guide the team.
Commitment
- I will ensure my child attends practices and games on time, and I will notify the coach if my child cannot attend.
- I will help my child manage her commitments and ensure she is prepared for practices and games (proper equipment, rest, hydration).
Role Model
- I will model respect, patience, and positivity toward all players, referees, and coaches.
- I will never engage in unsportsmanlike behavior, such as arguing with referees or disrespecting other parents, players, or coaches. I will refrain from disparaging other players, and mainly focus on cheering for my child and her teammates. I will not cheer against the other children or another team.
Fair Play
- I will encourage my child to play by the rules, respect referees’ decisions, and avoid unsportsmanlike conduct.
Health and Well-being
- I will prioritize my child’s health and well-being over the outcome of any game.
